Tokiwa Onoda

Piano

Currently in the second year of her Bachelor’s degree, Tokiwa Onoda first began learning the piano at the age of four. In 2012, she passed the Certificate of Performance with Trinity College London with Distinction, the Highest Score Award and the Queensland Top of State award, and completed the Associate Diploma the following year, both under the tutelage of Vicky Yang. Over the years, she has received a number of prizes for piano, including the Open Scholarship at the Redlands Eisteddfod in 2013, first prize at the Queensland Piano Competition in 2014 and 2017, the Wight Memorial Medal for Piano in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016, and the Jefferies Bursary for Music at Brisbane Girls’ Grammar School. Recently, she was the joint recipient of the Queenslanders Foundation prize for the highest mark in first year piano performance as well as the Sir Samuel Griffith Scholarship, and in April, performed alongside the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra. Tokiwa has performed in masterclasses with a variety of artists including Alexander Strukov, Roy Howat, Peter Hill, and Aleksander Madzar. She is currently studying under Oleg Stepanov at the Queensland Conservatorium.
